On October 19th, the 2025 Antai College Advisory Board Meeting of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was held at the Xuhui Campus. The meeting was chaired by Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of CPC SJTU Committee, and, Yan Junqi, Vice Chairwoman of 11th and 12th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, former Chairwoman of Central Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD).
The meeting welcomed forty distinguished guests from government, academia, and the business sector, who gathered to share insights and experiences aimed at supporting the college's pursuit of high-quality development. Hu Weiwei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee and Vice President of SJTU opened the meeting by providing an overview of previous advisory board gatherings.
In his opening remarks, Yang Zhenbin extended a warm welcome to all attendees and expressed heartfelt gratitude for their participation. He reflected on the significant journey of Shanghai Jiao Tong University over its three-century history, emphasizing growth driven by determination, innovation, and talent. Today, SJTU stands as a comprehensive, innovative, and internationally recognized institution, ranked among the world's elite universities. Yang highlighted that Antai College, with its rich history, has consistently aligned with China’s reform and opening-up efforts, securing its place among the country's premier business schools. He encouraged attendees to lend their strategic insights to support the college's long-term development, particularly as the university approaches its 130th anniversary and progresses from the "14th Five-Year Plan" to the "15th Five-Year Plan."
Dean Chen Fangruo delivered a comprehensive report on the college's achievements and ongoing development. He reminisced about Antai's century-long academic evolution while showcasing highlights over the past 40 years since its restoration. Chen underscored the college’s unwavering commitment to industry research, technological innovation, and international cooperation, as it strives toward becoming a world-class business school deeply rooted in China.
Zhou Bowen, Director and Chief Scientist of Shanghai AI Lab, presented a thought-provoking keynote speech titled "The AGI Wave: From Technological Frontiers to Scientific Breakthroughs." He discussed how the pervasive application of artificial intelligence is transforming research methodologies and knowledge boundaries. Zhou examined the evolution of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), explored emerging trends, and identified six core frontier issues as the field transitions from "AI for Science" to "AGI for Science."
In his keynote speech on "The Current Global Situation and the Prospects of China-US Relations," Zheng Yongnian, Honorary Dean of the Institute of Political Economy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Dean of School of Public Policy, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, emphasized that the world is currently at a critical juncture where the old order is loosening, and a new order is yet to be established. He provided an in-depth explanation from aspects such as the overall international situation, core analysis of China-US relations, and China's strategy and opportunities, offering a clear perspective on understanding the future of China-US relations. He believes that China-US relations are the central theme of this transitional period, and their essence lies in the competition over economic resilience, governance models, and the future order.
The first round of guest speeches was facilitated by Yan Junqi, who expressed her pride in the impressive strides made by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in recent years. She praised Antai College for its achievements and emphasized the critical importance of 2025 as a pivotal year for China's "15th Five-Year Plan." As the nation accelerates its strategy towards high-level technological self-reliance, she hopes Antai College will continue fostering well-rounded leaders proficient in both technology and management, thereby contributing to the nation’s modernization with the unique "Jiao Da wisdom" and "Antai strength."
Advisory Board members commended the college's recent accomplishments and engaged in discussions surrounding key topics such as the integration of artificial intelligence into business education, innovations in response to the global economic landscape, and interdisciplinary collaboration in industry research. They provided valuable recommendations and expectations for the college’s future trajectory.
For years, Antai College has placed great emphasis on the formation of its Advisory Board, which has evolved through three iterations since its inception in 1991. Hundreds of deans from leading business schools and prominent entrepreneurs, both domestically and internationally, have served on the board, offering strategic guidance that has significantly aided the college in its rapid development and international outreach. This platform continues to play a vital role in enhancing connections across various sectors both domestically and abroad, while providing forward-looking and strategic advice critical to the college's future development.
